Red Bull Back2Beyond Comes to South Africa

Estimated read time 2 min read

Born from the spirit of South African music, Red Bull Back2Beyond will make its local debut in Pretoria this November.

The concept is simple but powerful: instead of one back-to-back set, DJs team up in rotating pairs all night long across multiple stages. This creates fresh duos, unexpected sounds, and a continuous flow of music that celebrates collaboration.

First launched in Cologne in 2024, the event reimagines how electronic music is performed. While new in Europe, this idea feels natural to South Africa—where creativity has always thrived through working together, from call-and-response traditions and jazz collectives to Gqom and Amapiano collaborations.

The South African Line-Up

  • KMAT – Amapiano innovator taking township rhythms to the global stage.
  • Dlala Thukzin – Gqom and 3-step pioneer pushing boundaries with authentic sound.
  • Major League DJz – Global Amapiano trailblazers expanding into Afro-house and Afro-tech.
  • Sun-El Musician – Afro-house visionary blending melody and African electronic dance.

The event takes place at 012 Central in Pretoria, a raw and authentic venue that puts music first. Here, genres like Afro-house, Amapiano, 3-step, and Gqom will come together, celebrating South Africa as the heartbeat of African dance culture.

With Amapiano and Gqom now shaping dancefloors worldwide, Back2Beyond’s debut in South Africa is more than a festival—it’s a homecoming.
