South Africa, 30 January 2024 – Converse, a champion of creativity and self-expression, is encouraging fans to Discover their Edge of Style, as it adds elevated new styles to the De Luxe collection and rolls out a series of high heat collabs with female designers and creatives.  

This Summer, Converse advances style, fit, form and function with the addition of two new elevated styles that go beyond the expectations of the Chuck, mixing classic with Luxe. Joining the recently introduced and immediate fan favorite, the Chuck 70 De Luxe Heel, is the Chuck 70 De Luxe Wedge – which offers up to four inches of elevation – and the Chuck 70 De Luxe Squared.  

Both styles transform the brand’s iconic rounded rubber toe cap into one with angular, squared proportions for an entirely new dimension and expression, while evoking the Chuck Taylor’s notable DNA up top – featuring stitch detailing, octangular Converse patch and classic colorways synonymous with the brand.  

To launch the new ‘Edge of Style’ campaign, Converse becomes the catalyst for discovery enabling you to explore what it means to push beyond style limits.

The new De Luxe collection launches alongside a series of global high heat collabs with female creative collaborators including Martine Ali, Feng Chen Wang and Isabel Marant. Each collaborator is known for charting new paths and redefining the status quo, and Converse has offered the iconic Chuck Taylor silhouette as inspiration, and a catalyst for creativity to define the future of fashion. 

A Brilliant First Take on New Squared-Toed Converse Chuck 70 Featuring Swarovski® Crystals

No stranger to the world of fashion, Swarovski crystals is synonymous with innovation and creativity and has inspired mesmerizing designs for over 125 years. And much like Converse, Swarovski has been adopted, beloved and embedded in some of culture’s most iconic moments.

Swarovski crystals offer endless opportunities for self-expression. Featuring over 1,300 individual Swarovski crystals encrusted on each pair, the De Luxe Squared allows the silhouette’s upper to shine and juxtaposes the notable upper with an assortment of multi-sized crystals.  

The Chuck 70 De Luxe Squared and the Converse De Luxe Squared with Swarovski crystals complete the De Luxe silhouettes and will debut globally on February 1, 2024.

Ballantine’s collaboration with RZA lands in the heart of South Africa: A Scotch whisky and hip-hop affair takes over the streets of Braamfontein!

Johannesburg, 04 December 2023: In celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip hop, Ballantine’s, the world’s second-largest Scotch whisky* collaborated with the iconic frontman of Wu-Tang Clan, RZA. This partnership is a testament to the shared values of staying true to oneself and forging a unique path, as both entities came together to inspire self-expression and creativity.
 
Over the past few months, Ballantine’s and RZA embarked on an exhilarating journey, encouraging people to embrace authenticity and express themselves through a series of unexpected brand collaborations spanning music, fashion, and food. The first drop in the partnership brought together their shared love of music through a collaboration with Crosley, which saw the release of a limited edition Ballantine’s x RZA Crosley record player and Bluetooth speaker. This was followed by a capsule collection created in partnership with the iconic Japanese streetwear brand NEIGHBORHOOD, putting fashion at the heart of self-expression, and most recently, a unique collaboration with cult hot sauce brand Flying Goose.
 
The Ballantine’s x NEIGHBORHOOD limited-edition fashion and accessories capsule collection were made available globally from October 26th on HighSnobiety Shop and END.clothing, allowing fans worldwide to embrace the fusion of style and individuality.
 
The third drop saw RZA bringing together Ballantine’s and the home of the original sriracha hot sauce, Flying Goose, to create a distinctive hot sauce inspired by his passion for Asian food and culture. The result is a unique alcohol-free condiment that captures the essence of Ballantine’s 7 American Barrel, a blended Scotch whisky aged for a minimum of seven years while maintaining the fiery heat characteristic of Flying Goose’s iconic sriracha.
 

 
The journey continues with a spectacular landing in South Africa, as Ballantine’s opens a pop-up store at The Wing Republic in Johannesburg, Braamfontein, from December 1st to February 26th, 2024, on Fridays and Saturdays. The pop-up store will offer the exclusive NEIGHBORHOOD collection for sale. Additionally, visitors can explore a range of platters and recipes featuring the limite edition  sauce, allowing them to experience the fusion of flavors inspired by RZA’s culinary passions.

Last weekend, Converse was elevating #CreateNext at the one of Mzansi’s most loved three-day festival, Rocking the Daisies, that started over two decades ago in the Western Cape and is now also exhibiting showstopping performances in Gauteng as well. This longstanding festival had 4 stages where international acts such as JID, Stormzy, BAS, and our local favourites such as Focalistic, Kamo Mphela, PH, Sun EL Musician, DJ Lag, and Bongeziwe Mabandla to name a few created showstopping moments at this years festival.

The global footwear brand, Converse firmly shows off the spirit of #CreateNext by partnering and collaborating with such projects and activities, that highlight the brands aim to empower young creatives in Mzansi.

CONVERSE & AWAKE NY TAP INTO THE ONE STAR’S CULTURAL STATUS

Marrying a skate and music-inspired heritage with the diverse spirit of New York, Converse, and Awake NY have introduced their first collaborative collection.  This debut capsule from the Converse x Awake NY partnership celebrates the burgeoning skate and alternative music scene that blossomed in New York City in the early ‘90s, which coincided with Converse’s reintroduction of the 1974 All Star as the One Star.

Launched by Queens native Angelo Baque in 2012, the Awake NY reflects the diversity that defines New York City’s landscape and captures the spirit and sensibility of the five boroughs.  This silhouette was embraced by and embedded into the skate and alternative communities, which popularized apparel and sneakers salvaged from the ‘70s.

“The One Star always connects back to the early ‘90s punk and alternative artists I really admired, whether it be Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, or the Beastie Boys—music that typically you wouldn’t assume people where I’m from would listen to, or wear a pair of the One Star,” Baque says, reminiscing on his teenage years. “If you wore a pair of One Stars back then, you didn’t subscribe to the social norms.” This collaboration commemorates these memories.

The Converse x Awake NY capsule includes three takes on the One Star Pro, executed in black, blue, and white sand colorways. The Awake NY’s script logo is embroidered on the latter side of the vintage suede upper, which is completed by co-branded sock liners and license plates. The One Star Pro silhouette is crafted for skateboarders and features exceptional board feel and impact cushioning thanks to a CONS traction rubber outsole and molded CX sockliner. The silhouette’s low profile adds tonal flexibility, while a rubber-backed suede upper offers durability.
