That is the feeling Oskido’s Big Day Out is bringing back to Johannesburg this November, with some of South Africa’s most influential music pioneers set to reunite audiences with the sounds that shaped generations.
The legendary Brothers of Peace (B.O.P), Liquideep and Mdu have been announced as the first wave of artists for Oskido’s Big Day Out 2026, setting the tone for a festival built around nostalgia, timeless hits and the enduring power of South African dance music.
The festival returns to Huddle Park in Linksfield, Johannesburg, on Saturday, 28 November 2026, with this year’s edition promising to be the biggest yet. Two stages will deliver an expanded musical experience, bringing together artists who shaped the country’s musical past alongside those pushing its sound forward.
At the centre of the first announcement is B.O.P, the legendary producer and DJ duo comprising Bruce ‘Dope’ Sebitlo and Oskido. Their contribution to South African dance music is deeply woven into the country’s musical history, with a catalogue that helped define the sound of an era.
They will be joined by Liquideep, whose soulful melodies and distinctive sound became a defining part of South Africa’s modern dance music landscape, as well as Mdu, whose infectious energy and influence helped establish him as one of the country’s most recognisable names in kwaito.
Together, the three acts represent a generation of musicians whose music travelled far beyond clubs and dance floors. Their songs became part of township celebrations, family gatherings, road trips, braais and countless nights out, creating a musical connection that continues to cross generations.
For Oskido, that connection is at the heart of the festival.
“Big Day Out has always been about celebrating the music that connects us all. These are artists whose songs became part of our lives. They gave us classics that still fill dance floors today, and it’s only fitting that we honour their contribution while bringing people together to create new memories as we do every year,” says Oskido.
The 2026 edition promises an emotional journey through some of the sounds that have shaped South African music, from the soulful sounds of Liquideep and the unmistakable grooves of Brothers of Peace to the energy and influence of Mdu.
But nostalgia will not be the only focus.
With house, kwaito, amapiano and hip hop forming part of the festival’s musical offering, Oskido’s Big Day Out will also look towards the future, creating space for contemporary sounds and artists alongside the pioneers who helped build the country’s dance music culture.
More headliners, surprise performances, lifestyle experiences and brand activations are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, adding to the anticipation surrounding the festival.
