Johannesburg – 5 May 2021: Telkom has made meaningful strides recently, notably climbing up the ranks to become the third largest mobile network service provider in the country, thanks to its competitive data-led offering which customers have found most beneficial during the national lockdown. Today the company announced its new influencer partners; namely, Tumi Morake, Khutso Theledi, Leigh-Anne Williams and Martelize Brink. This, as the company endeavours to drive even more education about the accessibility and affordability of connectivity, especially in the home front, true to its brand purpose to leave no man behind as the world needs to connect more than ever.

Telkom launched the influencer program in 2020 with a strategy to partner with African Language Stations (ALS) radio station influencers in order to make its communications inclusive within all South African communities. The company will continue with five of the original influencers from last year including Zizo Tshwete, Seipati Twasa Seoke, Dudu Khoza, Selby Mkhize and Brian Rikhotso.

“Telkom has connected communities and people since its inception; it is our goal to ensure that communication is always clear, simple and inclusive. We have an array of products and services that truly enable a good quality of life for our consumers and we want to ensure that there are no barriers in them having knowledge about and access to them. Based on the success of the partnerships we had last year, with personalities from the various ALS radio stations, we are thrilled to expand our relationships to include the Afrikaans speaking community,” said Gugu Mthembu – Telkom’s Chief Marketing Officer.

The ALS radio stations are spread across Zulu, isiXhosa, Xitsonga radio, Sesotho and Setswana as well as Afrikaans and youth focused radio station YFM.

Tumi Morake added: “I am thrilled to be a part of this journey with Telkom. Usually brands will call on you to help them sell something, but this has felt like an invitation with a clear mission to accomplish something that is aligned to my beliefs; that people should always be connected. I do it through laughter and Telkom does it through accessible technology. It’s the perfect marriage in my eyes.”

Telkom has recently introduced compelling consumer offerings, including its video-streaming platform – TelkomONE and the Telkom Digital Wallet operated through WhatsApp: “We are always working and innovating as a business; with technology at the core of our services and products, always with the goal to connect people as seamlessly as possible and in the most affordable way. Keep your eyes peeled on Telkom; we have so much more in store that consumers can expect for the value they’ve come to expect from us,” concluded Mthembu.
