Over one of Johannesburg’s most culturally significant weekends, Johnnie Walker reaffirmed its commitment to creativity, collaboration and African excellence through its culture-led platform, Johnnie Walker Afro-Exchange, at the Africa Rising Music Conference (ARMC).
Hosted at the iconic Constitution Hill, ARMC gathered some of Africa’s most influential voices across music, entertainment, culture and business, creating a vibrant environment where ideas, innovation and meaningful connections could flourish. Against this backdrop, Johnnie Walker Afro-Exchange delivered a series of immersive experiences designed to celebrate the richness of African creativity while fostering dialogue around the future of the continent’s creative economy.
As African creatives continue to shape global conversations through music, fashion, art, storytelling and lifestyle, Johnnie Walker has positioned Afro-Exchange as a platform that not only celebrates cultural achievement but actively contributes to the growth of creative communities. Through a blend of music, storytelling and cultural expression, the brand created memorable moments that reflected the energy, ambition and influence of modern African culture.
One of the highlights of the conference was the Purpose-Driven Leadership and Collaboration panel discussion, presented by Johnnie Walker Afro-Exchange. The session brought together influential leaders from across industries, including Ifeoma Agu, Group Head of Culture, Influencers and Advocacy at Diageo South, West and Central Africa; Andra Nel, Head of Corporate Affairs at KFC Africa; Nadin Hadorn, Team Manager Distribution and Deputy Head of Operations at MINT Digital Services; and Nick DeCosemo, International Development Director at Mixmag. Moderated by DeCosemo, the discussion explored how intentional partnerships, purpose-led leadership and cross-sector collaboration can help build sustainable creative ecosystems while elevating African talent on a global stage.
The conversation extended beyond the conference floor into ARMC By Night, presented by Johnnie Walker Afro-Exchange, where music lovers experienced a dynamic showcase of local and international talent. The lineup featured performances from DarkFace, Haruna, Timanti, Mörda, Nelo HD, Rarri, DJ Buhle and Henrik Schwarz, bringing together a diverse mix of sounds and influences that reflected the spirit of Afro-Exchange. The event became a celebration of African music culture, creativity and nightlife, highlighting the power of music to connect people across borders and backgrounds.
“At Johnnie Walker, we believe progress is shaped through culture, collaboration and the communities driving creativity forward,” says Ifeoma Agu, Group Head for Culture, Influencers and Advocacy at Diageo. “Through Afro-Exchange, we are intentional about creating platforms that go beyond celebration and instead invest in the journey of African creatives, from music and art to fashion and storytelling. These experiences are about creating meaningful cultural connections, opening access, and championing the voices and ideas that continue to shape modern African luxury.”
Throughout the weekend, Afro-Exchange transformed ARMC into a living cultural dialogue where artists, entrepreneurs, musicians and creatives came together to exchange ideas, spark collaborations and contribute to shaping the future of African creativity. More than a brand activation, the platform served as a catalyst for meaningful engagement, creating opportunities for emerging and established creatives alike to connect and inspire one another.
By participating in ARMC, Johnnie Walker once again demonstrated its role as more than a whisky brand. Through Afro-Exchange, it continues to establish itself as a progressive cultural curator committed to investing in the people, conversations and creative movements that are shaping the future of African culture. As the platform continues to grow, it remains focused on creating spaces where creativity, collaboration and community can thrive, ensuring that African voices continue to influence and inspire audiences both on the continent and around the world.
