You do not need a passport to travel through Johannesburg this October. Instead, all you need is a little time, an open mind and a willingness to look at art differently.
Hyatt House Johannesburg Rosebank has partnered with Artd. to bring Travel Through Art to the hotel, transforming its lounge and pool areas into an immersive walk-through gallery where guests, travellers and locals can move through different places, memories and emotions without ever leaving Rosebank.
The idea is simple, but the experience goes much deeper. Hotels are naturally connected to journeys, while art has its own way of taking people somewhere else. Together, the two create a space where visitors can pause, explore and see familiar surroundings through a different lens.
At the centre of the exhibition is a striking abstract work covered in layers of raw, sculpted red, interrupted by flashes of sky blue and green. From a distance, the textured composition resembles a landscape viewed from above, complete with what appear to be coastlines, rivers and fragments of land.
However, get closer and the picture changes. The work becomes less about a specific destination and more about movement, energy and sensation. Its physical texture encourages viewers to experience the artwork rather than simply stand back and observe it.

Curated in collaboration with Artd., the collection brings together contemporary works that explore paint as landscape and texture as memory. Consequently, Travel Through Art creates an exhibition that feels tactile, personal and open to interpretation.
More importantly, the collaboration adds another layer to Hyatt House Johannesburg Rosebank’s identity. Rather than being simply somewhere to check in and sleep, the Rosebank property is creating a space where art lovers, travellers and the local community can stop, connect and discover something unexpected.
And, in a city where art and hospitality increasingly intersect, this particular journey does not require a boarding pass.
