In excitement for the upcoming Angeliena premiere, here’s what some of the cast members had to share:

THAPELO MAKOENA, Dr. Alasa

“Every corner of the world deserves to see that one film that introduces them to a People they didn’t know or well understand. And this film does that while pulling at your heart strings. It was a great adventure seeing it come together and playing Dr. Alasa.”

KULI ROBERTS, Tina

“It was a great experience and being from Cape Town it was an honour to be part of this film… I couldn’t believe I would be acting alongside such great thespians… I’m very humbled to be part of Angeliena. Also playing a Capetonian was easy as I’m from Langa and lived in Athlone and Kuilsriver.  Catch Tina, want sy is sexy met n groot hart (because she is sexy with a gigantic, big heart).”

EUODIA SAMPSON, Angeliena

“Bringing Angeliena to life every day. Digging into her psyche, really feeling her, through every cell in my body. Understanding and developing her… It was very interesting for me as an actress, to just watch myself, and to not overthink her and just ‘be’ her. And to allow her to have her mannerisms, her ‘sê-goedjies’, her instincts in her situations. Just play her every day. And to not just portray her as angry, because she could have been an angry woman because of the things that have happened to her.”

COLIN MOSS, Dr. Lawrence Mitchell

“Working on Angeliena was an absolute joy (not least because we shot it at a time when the rest of our industry had been utterly decimated by Covid!). But a real highlight for me was that all of the locations were in Cape Town’s “Deep South”. My wife and I took the opportunity to take a working holiday in Simon’s Town and explore the peninsula between shoot days – which was really lovely! That and the fact that I got to work with such a wonderful cast and crew of very, very special people! Magic!”

MARCIEL HOPKINS, Debbie

“It was an honour to be part of Angeliena the movie, as it’s 100% proudly South African! I auditioned for the role of Debbie when I was still in New York and I couldn’t wait to come home when I heard I got the part. I love our beautiful country and I think we have so many important stories to tell. To work with Uga Carlini, a female director with incredible vision, was an absolute highlight of the filming process. I look up to her work ethic, passion for filmmaking and for believing in a vision with her whole heart.”

Set your reminders and make sure not to miss the premiere of Angeliena on Netflix on Friday, 8 October 2021.
