In partnership with Savanna Premium Cider and One-eyed Jack, the Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase returns as a flagship event of the 13th Annual Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards on Sunday, 8 February 2026 at The Maslow Hotel in Sandton.
Bringing together comedy lovers, media and key industry decision-makers, the showcase is a high-energy celebration of fresh perspectives, fearless voices and undeniable comedic talent. Now firmly established as a cornerstone of the awards calendar, the Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase is designed to spotlight the next generation of South African comedians—loudly, boldly and unapologetically.
This is the stage where rising talent gets exactly five minutes to make an impression. No filler, no fluff—just rapid-fire punchlines as 20 emerging comedians take the stage back-to-back in a fast, unpredictable comedy gauntlet where every laugh counts.
From this intense lineup, the top five performers will be voted through as official Savanna Newcomer Award nominees, earning industry recognition and a fast track to the big leagues. One of them will ultimately be crowned winner at the Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards ceremony on 2 May 2026 at The Lyric Theatre.
Hosted by 2025 Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedian of the Year Celeste Ntuli, the evening promises authority, energy and big laughs. The showcase opens with a set from 2025 Savanna Newcomer Award winner Khanyisile Ngwenya, setting the tone for a night of standout performances and future stars in the making.
Beyond the stage, the Savanna Newcomer initiative continues its impact with a dedicated Comedy Workshop on Monday, 9 February at Artistry in Sandton. The workshop offers newcomers direct access to established comedians and industry professionals, providing practical insights into both the craft and business of comedy.
The 2026 Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase kicks off with pre-drinks at 16h00, followed by the main show from 17h00 to 19h00. Guests are encouraged to stay on afterwards for drinks, networking and post-show conversations.
Tickets for the Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase are priced at R150 and can be purchased through Quicket. As a special treat, all attendees will receive a complimentary Savanna Premium Cider on arrival. However, tickets are limited so get yours ASAP to avoid disappointment.
