Johannesburg’s cultural calendar came alive as Johnnie Walker once again brought its celebrated Afro Exchange platform to the 2026 edition of the RMB Latitudes Art Fair, creating an unforgettable fusion of contemporary African art, culture and creativity at the stunning Shepstone Gardens.
Recognised as one of the city’s most anticipated cultural weekends, the fair transformed Shepstone Gardens into an immersive creative destination where artists, collectors, tastemakers and art enthusiasts gathered to celebrate contemporary African expression.
Known for reimagining the traditional art fair experience, RMB Latitudes Art Fair allows visitors to engage with art in unique indoor and outdoor spaces. From large-scale sculpture installations to curated exhibitions and thought-provoking conversations, the event continues to position itself as one of South Africa’s leading platforms for contemporary African art.
At the heart of this year’s experience was Johnnie Walker Afro Exchange, a creative platform dedicated to fostering connection, collaboration and cultural exchange. Guests were invited to participate in the Afro Exchange Art Experience, an interactive activation where attendees explored their own creativity through painting while enjoying expertly crafted Johnnie Walker cocktails.
The activation quickly became a vibrant gathering point where art, self-expression and modern luxury intersected, creating memorable moments throughout the weekend.

A standout feature of the programme was the exclusive Drinks with Dada experience, where guests engaged in meaningful conversations with acclaimed Cape Town artist Dada Khanyisa. His exhibition challenged conventional perspectives and encouraged dialogue through works that interacted directly with their architectural surroundings.
The 2026 fair also celebrated Nigeria as its International Focus country, showcasing a specially curated exhibition developed in partnership with Yenwa Gallery. The initiative highlighted both emerging and established Nigerian artists while promoting cross-border cultural exchange across the continent.
Through Afro Exchange, Johnnie Walker continues to champion African creativity by creating platforms where art, storytelling, music and culture converge. The result is a growing movement that celebrates innovation, collaboration and the next generation of African excellence.
