The South African broadcasting and music industries are facing devastating news following reports of the death of veteran broadcaster and music industry figure Owen Ndlovu.
Ndlovu was reported missing after he was allegedly kidnapped by armed men in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, on Tuesday night.
According to credible reports, the former SABC sports presenter was allegedly taken at around 8pm by three men, one of whom was reportedly armed. His wife was reportedly present during the incident.
His Ford Raptor was later recovered in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg, with reports stating that the vehicle had been abandoned and partially stripped, with the computer box and passenger seat reportedly removed. Police subsequently launched an investigation and a manhunt for the suspects.
However, the situation has taken a tragic turn, with credible images privately shared reportedly showing Ndlovu’s body.
“The eyewitness says these guys wanted SAMRO documents. He ran away with a bag, then they shot him. He threw the bag away, and the police recovered it. The bag is now part of the evidence.”
Ndlovu was a familiar name in South African broadcasting, particularly through his work with SABC Sport,. Ndlovu was also active in the music industry and was known for his involvement in artists’ rights, music royalties and industry matters.
His career extended beyond broadcasting, with Ndlovu having built relationships across sport, entertainment and the South African music business.
News of his reported passing comes only hours after concerns were raised over his whereabouts, making the development particularly devastating for those who knew him and followed his work.
