On Saturday, 7 February 2026, LEGACY returns to The Old Biscuit Mill with the Love Pride Ball, setting the tone for Cape Town’s 2026 cultural calendar. Now in its fourth year and with more than 25 productions behind it, LEGACY has grown into the structural foundation of the city’s queer Ballroom community—where hierarchy is honoured, competition is rigorously judged, and culture is protected.

Rooted in a global history that began in 1960s New York, Ballroom emerged as a response by Black and Latino trans and queer communities excluded from mainstream drag spaces. They created Houses as chosen families and Balls as arenas for visibility, affirmation, and excellence. While popular culture has since globalised Ballroom aesthetics, South Africa’s scene is shaped by lived realities rather than trends.

Here, Ballroom is a vital support system. House structures offer belonging and protection in a society where queer bodies still face daily challenges. LEGACY provides the cultural infrastructure for this ecosystem, honouring Ballroom’s lineage while allowing distinctly South African expression to thrive. Its work continues the legacy of the late Kirvan Fortuin (Mother Kirvan Le Cap), whose pioneering vision laid the blueprint for Ballroom culture in the country.

The Love Pride Ball is not a typical nightlife event—it is a disciplined cultural ritual. Walkers compete across categories such as Face, Realness, and Vogue Femme, judged under strict Ballroom rules. The floor becomes a sacred runway where artistry, reputation, and identity are tested and celebrated.

The night brings together three key tiers of the Ballroom community: established Mainstream Houses competing for legacy and honour; the Kiki scene, a youth-driven space for experimentation and growth; and the 007s—independent, unaffiliated walkers carving out individual reputations.

Produced by female-led Edition Events, LEGACY balances underground authenticity with world-class production. Led by founder Léa Debbah alongside Ballroom consultant Rori Bingham 007, the team’s focus is cultural stewardship—ensuring that as the event grows, the integrity of Ballroom remains untouched. Every detail, from lighting to sound, is designed to honour the talent on the floor and affirm the community it represents.
