DJ Yeye is the Diesel Denim Friday – Sound Of Denim winner

SANDTON 4 February 2022 – DJ Yeye, the hot up-and-coming DJ from the Mother City has been crowned the 2021 Diesel Denim Friday – Sound of Denim winner at a hybrid ceremony in Kramerville, Sandton hosted by multimedia entrepreneur, content creator and broadcast presenter Pamela Mtanga.

DJ Yeye gained with over 30% more of the top 5 total votes. “I am honoured, excited and so humbled to have been named the Diesel Denim Friday winner,” said DJ Yeye. “Diesel, which is a brand I admire, created an amazing platform and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my love of music with so many people. Thank you to Diesel Denim Fridays, Shimza and the hero DJs, and to the other finalists for the most amazing time spent together and positive vibes we shared. Most importantly, thank you to all the fans for sharing your love! I look forward to growing as a DJ and representing the brand Diesel,” he said.

The popularity of the competition shows that South Africa has embraced the concept of finding new talent. This has been set out to entertain, promote and empower emerging talents; and South Africans have reacted incredibly positively to this and it is wonderful to see the love and support.DJ Yeye will go on to be one of the new DDF SUPERHERO DJs for the next round of the competition.

Shimza, no stranger to lovers of music in South Africa, said “DJ Yeye is part of an exciting future on the decks in this country. Congratulations and I cannot wait to see how his career grows from here. All five finalists are amazing – what a time to be alive in SA’s dance music industry.”

The top five DJs, selected after the competition kicked off in September 2021, were: DJ Yeye from Cape Town, Sabziin from Pretoria, Wex TBK and DJ Cherry Dashe from Johannesburg, and Massive Kid from Durban. “Judging by the talent on display, the industry is vibrant, and its future is in good hands,” says Van Wyk, adding that he expects Diesel Denim Fridays to continue growing from strength to strength.

The competition started as a way to entertain customers at Diesel stores and quickly evolved into a nationwide initiative to discover, promote and empower the hottest new DJ talent in SA. Contestants were selected and supported by DJ Shimza, the competition’s SUPERHERO DJ, and HERO DJs representing Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban – Oscar Mbo, Mshayi & Mr Thela, Malankane and DJ Le Soul, respectively.
