For many South Africans, multi award-winning musician, singer, songwriter, music producer, film scorer and actor Brian Temba is forever etched into memory as Ranthomeng—the gentle, dignified Sesotho character who captured hearts on SABC 2’s Muvhango. In a full-circle artistic moment aptly titled Brian Temba Returns to His Roots With a smash hit single ‘Rato Laka’,” the acclaimed artist reconnects with the language and identity that first endeared him to audiences. Originally from Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, Temba began his musical journey as a backing vocalist for legends including Hugh Masekela, Jonathan Butler and Vicky Vilakazi, before rising through trailblazing ensembles such as Joyous Celebration, Family Factory and IV U (For You). His artistic legacy spans stage, screen and studio, including making history as the first South African to portray Simba in The Lion King on London’s West End. Through his work, audiences have not only witnessed his depth as a performer, but also reconnected with the emotional richness of the Sesotho language.

More than two decades into an acclaimed career, Temba now returns to that language of home, heritage and heart with Rato Laka, his first-ever Sesotho single, set for release on 13 February 2026, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Translating to My Love, the song marks a full-circle artistic moment for the celebrated singer, actor and composer.

Written and produced by Temba himself, Rato Laka is a tender R&B ballad that explores love in its most mature and enduring form. Known for timeless love songs, this release stands apart as deeply personal. Singing in his mother tongue allowed Temba to access new emotional layers, giving the song a resonance that feels both intimate and universal.

Carried by his signature smooth vocals and rich contemporary production, Rato Laka speaks to a love that remains when passion softens and commitment deepens. It is grounded in African identity while reaching across borders with a message that is patient, intentional and deeply human.

To support the release, Temba will embark on a national radio and media tour with a strong focus on Sesotho-speaking and community radio stations. The tour launches in Johannesburg before moving through North West, Bloemfontein and Limpopo. On 14 February 2026, he will headline a Romantic Valentine’s Day Picnic at the Mahikeng Botanical Gardens, serenading couples with Rato Laka alongside some of his most loved classics.

Rato Laka will be available on all digital streaming platforms from 13 February 2026.
