AMAZI Turns Coffee Waste Into A Skin-Smoothing Scrub

Estimated read time 3 min read

Coffee has already secured its place in our morning routines, afternoon pick-me-ups and those conversations that somehow become much longer than planned. Now, however, those familiar coffee grounds are getting a second life in the bathroom.

Locally made beauty brand AMAZI Experience is turning reclaimed coffee grounds into a body-care ritual with its AMAZI Beauty Exfoliating Me Coffee Scrub.

Rather than simply ending up in the bin after that final cup, the used grounds are incorporated into a body scrub designed to remove dead skin cells and surface buildup. As a result, skin can be left feeling smoother, softer and refreshed.

The formula combines organic reclaimed coffee grounds with sugar, jojoba oil, almond oil, baobab oil, marula oil, shea butter and cocoa butter.

And while the coffee connection might initially sound like a fun beauty trend, there is more to the ingredient than its familiar aroma.

The physical massage involved when applying a coffee scrub can help increase circulation to the skin, while caffeine can temporarily influence the appearance of puffiness and firmness. Consequently, skin may have a fresher, more awake appearance after use.

It can also be particularly useful for those areas that tend to get forgotten in everyday skincare. Think elbows, knees, legs and feet, where dryness and rough texture can become more noticeable.

By removing flaky surface skin, exfoliation can also help moisturising products spread more evenly, leaving the skin feeling softer afterwards.

Then there is the much-discussed question of cellulite. Coffee-based products containing caffeine may temporarily make skin appear firmer or less dimpled. However, it is important to keep expectations realistic: a coffee scrub does not remove cellulite.

For AMAZI founders Divya and Lisa, the concept is ultimately about turning an everyday habit into another kind of pause.

“We have always believed in the power of a pause, even if it is just a few minutes in the middle of your day,” they say.

That idea also feeds into the brand’s approach to conscious consumption. Instead of treating used coffee grounds as waste, AMAZI has incorporated them into a self-care product that extends their usefulness beyond the cup.

The Exfoliating Me Coffee Scrub forms part of the AMAZI signature Restore Manicure and Restore Pedicure experiences, bringing the coffee-inspired treatment into the brand’s wider wellness offering.

The 250ml scrub is available exclusively at The AMAZI Experience in Rosebank, giving coffee lovers another reason to look at their daily brew a little differently.

Because sometimes, the things we are ready to throw away still have another ritual waiting for them.
