The creator economy has evolved into one of the most powerful forces shaping modern culture, influencing how South Africans discover products, consume entertainment, engage with brands, and participate in everyday conversations. What was once considered a niche corner of the internet has transformed into a thriving industry where creators have become entrepreneurs, storytellers, entertainers, and trusted voices with the ability to shape public opinion and consumer behaviour.
Recognising the growing influence of digital creators across every aspect of media and communication, the Content Creator Awards has announced a strategic partnership with Cars.co.za and the introduction of several new award categories for its 2026 edition. Now entering its fourth year, the awards continue to celebrate the creators, brands, and agencies producing content that captures attention, drives engagement, and influences audiences across South Africa’s digital landscape.
“The Content Creator Awards continues to champion creators not simply as influencers, but as entrepreneurs, entertainers, storytellers and cultural drivers who are shaping the future of media in South Africa,” says Manuela Dias de Deus, founder of the awards and the agency behind them, One-eyed Jack.
One of the clearest examples of the creator economy’s growing influence can be seen within the automotive sector. For decades, vehicle reviews and motoring conversations were dominated by traditional media and specialist publications. Today, however, some of the most influential automotive content is being created by individuals documenting their real-life experiences online. From first-car purchases and family road trips to practical ownership advice, off-road adventures, and dream-car aspirations, creators have become trusted sources of information for audiences seeking authentic and relatable perspectives.
In recognition of this shift, the Content Creator Awards has partnered with Cars.co.za as the official Automotive Category Partner. The collaboration reflects the growing role creators play in making automotive content more accessible, engaging, and relevant to South African consumers.
“Our goal is to produce content that is useful, locally relevant and genuinely helps South Africans navigate the realities of mobility and car ownership with greater confidence,” says Nicole Capper Austin, Chief Marketing Officer at Cars.co.za. “Through the Cars.co.za Automotive Content Award, we’re excited to recognise creators who are contributing meaningfully to that conversation.”
Adding further excitement to the 2026 edition, the awards have introduced three new categories that reflect the rapidly evolving creator landscape and the diverse ways audiences engage with content online. As social media increasingly becomes the launchpad for emerging artists, the Sound of Tomorrow Award will recognise music creators and artists who are successfully building audiences, growing communities, and establishing themselves as the next generation of South African music talent.
Comedy, one of the most popular and widely consumed forms of digital content, will also receive dedicated recognition through the Best Comedy Content Creator Award. From clever satire and unforgettable characters to skits, parody, and everyday observations that resonate with millions, the category celebrates creators who consistently use humour to entertain and connect with audiences.
The rise of podcasting has also created new opportunities for creators to engage audiences through long-form storytelling and meaningful conversations. The newly introduced Podcast of the Year Award will honour creators producing compelling audio content across a wide range of genres, including culture, business, current affairs, comedy, interviews, and storytelling. The category aims to recognise podcasts that have built loyal communities through consistency, creativity, and authentic audience engagement.
According to Dias de Deus, the new categories are a reflection of the remarkable diversity and innovation emerging across South Africa’s creator economy.
“Online platforms have become some of the most powerful storytelling spaces in South Africa. These new categories reflect the incredible diversity of creativity we’re seeing across the creator economy, from comedy and music to niche communities and lifestyle storytelling. We want the awards to grow alongside the industry and continue creating meaningful opportunities for creators to be recognised, discovered and celebrated.”
The winner of the Automotive Content Award will receive a R10,000 cash prize courtesy of Cars.co.za, adding further incentive for creators producing impactful content within the sector.
Beyond recognising excellence, the Content Creator Awards remains committed to promoting responsible digital publishing and sustainable industry growth. The awards continue to support the South African Content Creator Charter while aligning with ethical publishing standards advocated by the IAB and the Advertising Regulatory Board.
As digital platforms continue to redefine how stories are told, communities are built, and influence is measured, the Content Creator Awards is positioning itself as a leading platform for celebrating the creators who are shaping the future of South African media. With new categories, strategic partnerships, and a growing industry footprint, the 2026 edition promises to be its biggest and most influential celebration of the creator economy yet.
