Sport fans across the continent are in for an unforgettable weekend as ESPN Africa prepares to deliver one of the biggest sporting line-ups of the year across ESPN, ESPN2 and Disney+ in South Africa. From European football finals and promotion battles to Africa’s biggest basketball showdown, the weekend of 22 to 24 May promises nonstop elite sporting action for viewers across the continent.

One of the headline fixtures sees Europe’s biggest women’s football clubs collide as FC Barcelona Femení face Olympique Lyonnais Féminin in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final on Saturday 23 May at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway. The highly anticipated clash marks the first time Norway hosts the prestigious final, with ESPN Africa continuing its commitment to bringing world-class women’s football to audiences throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Football fans can also expect major drama from Wembley Stadium in London as the EFL Championship Play-Off Final takes centre stage on Saturday 23 May. Commonly known as the “richest game in football,” the final determines which club secures promotion to the English Premier League. Hull City, Middlesbrough F.C., Millwall F.C. and Southampton F.C. remain locked in a fierce race for a coveted place under the famous Wembley arch.

The football spectacle continues on Sunday 24 May when German powerhouses FC Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart battle for silverware in the DFB-Pokal Final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Stuttgart enters the clash as defending champions after lifting the trophy in 2025 and will now look to hold off one of Europe’s most dominant clubs in another blockbuster final.

Basketball fans are equally set for a thrilling showcase as the Basketball Africa League Finals tips off in Kigali, Rwanda from 22 to 31 May. Hosted at the BK Arena, the competition brings together Africa’s top men’s basketball clubs as they compete for continental supremacy and qualification to the 2026 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.

According to Kyle de Klerk, the action-packed weekend highlights ESPN Africa’s ongoing mission to bring premium sporting entertainment to African audiences. He described the upcoming schedule as an incredible moment for sports fans, featuring world-class football finals, promotion battles and Africa’s top club basketball competition all in one weekend.

Fans can catch the action on ESPN (DStv 218, StarTimes 248), ESPN2 (DStv 219, StarTimes 249), as well as ESPN’s linear channels available through Disney+ South Africa.
