  • SPACES AFRICA partners with Fresh AF to host CR8TOR-CON, an intimate event for South African creatives.
  • Shamiso Mosaka guides guests through presentations by SPACES AFRICA and Fresh AF, led by Jay Kayembe, highlighting the event’s significance.
  • Held at USURPA, Africa’s first Digital Fine Art NFT gallery in Johannesburg, setting the stage for innovation and creativity.

In early April, SPACES AFRICA teamed up with cultural experts and the prominent digital marketing agency, Fresh AF, to host an exclusive gathering known as CR8TOR-CON. This event brought together a select group of South African creatives, including tastemakers, curators, marketers, and artists, for a unique blend of launch, conversation, and exhibition, held in partnership with SA Creatives & USURPA.

Set against the backdrop of USURPA, Africa’s premier Digital Fine Art NFT gallery located in Johannesburg, this invite-only affair served as a reintroduction to SPACES AFRICA. Since its inception in 2016, SPACES AFRICA has been dedicated to reshaping and redefining creative landscapes. CR8TOR-CON not only provided a platform for creatives to amplify their voices and reshape the dynamics of the industry but also underscored a commitment to celebrating Southern Africa’s creative talent.

Renowned creatives from the region, including Aart Verrips, Buqaqawuli Thamani Nobakada, Lazi Matebula, Hakopike, Chloe Andrea Welgemoed, Sonia Tona, Mpumelelo “Frypan” Mfula, and Mishaal Gangaram, among others, were invited to participate in curated panel discussions. These discussions, centered on the themes of “Creativity & Collaboration,” offered insights into their artistic journeys and showcased their visual expressions within the gallery space.

Shamiso Mosaka skillfully guided guests through presentations by SPACES AFRICA and Fresh AF, led by Jay Kayembe, Executive Creative Director at Fresh AF and SPACES AFRICA. Subsequently, two panel discussions featuring the aforementioned creatives, alongside notable figures like Dirty Native Chief, Nolan C. Kalwandu, Cherné Africa, Kgomotso Kiggy, Lelo Whatsgood, Espacio Dios, Kay Kay Ribane, and Nene Mahlangu, were conducted.

Moderated by Shamiso Mosaka and Rudzani “Roo” Netshiheni, Culture Curator at Fresh AF and SA Creatives, these CR8TOR Conversations delved into various aspects of the creative industry, offering perspectives on navigating its challenges and opportunities.

Fresh AF & Spaces Africa Executive Creative Director Jay Kayembe stated “As a collective, our team has dedicated the past seven years to the development of Spaces Africa, fostering a platform that empowers young African creatives to exhibit their talents. It is immensely gratifying to witness the substantial backing from our esteemed partners who align with our vision and objectives, particularly evident during the inaugural CR8TOR-CON last night. The launch was both informative and inspirational for our diverse group of guests’.

The night also brought together sounds from BASMNT, Fif Laaa, Wendy Ntinezo, Deniece Marz, and IceCreamSundayz who entertained guests throughout the night before the CR8TOR-CON experience concluded with anticipation for what’s coming next.

“I’m thrilled about the launch of CR8TOR-CON with Spaces Africa. Together, we’re dedicated to elevating creatives into serious businesses. By combining our event production and advertising agency expertise with their platform, we’re empowering creatives to monetise their craft and reshape our industry. Thanks to all involved, and here’s to a future of collaboration and innovation. Africa to the world!” affirmed Fresh AF Managing Director Ally Fathana.
