In South Africa, the spirit of Converse’s Love Chuck campaign finds a bold and authentic voice in Usimamane—a fearless creative, genre-defying artist, and a true reflection of today’s youth. With a reputation for breaking boundaries and embracing originality, Usimamane perfectly embodies the essence of the Love Chuck movement.

On Thursday, 10 July, Converse officially welcomed Usimamane to the Love Chuck family with an exclusive celebration at the YFM studios. The event brought together an impressive lineup of industry peers, including Tony Dayimane, Qwellers, and Blaq Diamond, to honour not only Usimamane’s new partnership with the iconic brand, but also his recent milestones—winning the Metro FM Award for Best Male Artist and achieving platinum status for his album.

Hosted by YFM’s Sinaye, the evening was a vibrant tribute to creativity, cultural pride, and self-expression. Highlights included a powerful performance by Usimamane of an unreleased track, along with electrifying DJ sets from YFM’s finest, turning the night into an unforgettable celebration of music, movement, and message.

“Love Chuck is about paying homage to those who have not just walked in our sneakers but the places and movements that have supported us and left an indelible mark in society.  ,” says Tebogo Motlhamme, Marketing Manager at Converse South Africa. “Usimamane is the perfect local catalyst because he lives this ethos. His energy, creativity and fearless individuality make him a true representation of what Chuck Taylor stands for today.”

The Chuck Taylor isn’t just footwear—it’s a cultural statement. From underground scenes to international stages, it has influenced generations through art, music, and fashion. Its enduring relevance lies in its ability to evolve with the times, while staying true to its roots as a symbol for creators, leaders, and rule-breakers. The Love Chuck campaign is Converse’s homage to that powerful legacy—and to the individuals who continue to shape it.

For Usimamane, the campaign represents more than just a brand collaboration—it’s a personal milestone that aligns with his identity and artistic vision.

“It feels so surreal to collaborate with such an iconic brand as Converse,” he says. “It’s been part of so many childhoods in South Africa—from pantsula dance floors to the high-fashion streets of the townships. The All Star skew is a cultural staple, both locally and globally. It mirrors everything I stand for musically. Partnering with Converse was an easy choice because we share the same values. I’m deeply honoured—thank you, Converse.”

The Love Chuck campaign will unfold through daring visuals, unique creative partnerships, and a series of homegrown activations that invite fans to wear their passion proudly—celebrating a shoe that’s walked beside them through every chapter.
