Building wealth takes more than a good idea. It also requires difficult decisions, calculated risks and the ability to learn from mistakes. These are some of the lessons explored in the returning kykNET series Welvaartskeppers, which takes viewers inside the journeys of South Africans who have built successful businesses and lasting legacies.

Hosted by financial advisers and brothers PJ and Geo Botha, the 13-part series moves beyond financial theory to explore the real experiences behind wealth creation. Through honest conversations, the featured entrepreneurs share what worked, what went wrong and what they would do differently.
This season features several familiar names, including professional cricketer-turned-entrepreneur Rassie van der Dussen, who discusses his move into business with Abantu Coffee. Meanwhile, entrepreneur Vusi Thembekwayo reflects on building from humble beginnings and creating a legacy that extends beyond personal success.
The series also features Jannie Moolman of Moolman Group, whose story examines generational wealth and the responsibility that comes with a family legacy. However, the conversations extend beyond established business figures.
Viewers will also hear from Andriette Georgiou of Mondvol Cookies, Pierre and Andriana Cronjé of Burnt Studios, Daneel and Stef Steinmann of Old School, and Stephan Bredell of Plato Coffee. In addition, Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp explores how personal talent and reputation can become valuable assets.
The series builds on ideas explored in Riaan Botha’s book Welvaartskeppers: Strategieë wat jou lewe kan verander and PJ and Geo Botha’s Word Ryk, Bly Ryk: Hoe om welvaart te skep en bestuur.
Ultimately, Welvaartskeppers highlights that there is no single formula for financial success. Instead, the experiences of those who have built businesses offer practical lessons for anyone looking to create and manage wealth.
Welvaartskeppers airs every Thursday at 17:30 on kykNET, DStv channel 144, from 8 October 2026.
