Following a year of tests, trials and tribulation – South Africa’s gospel music powerhouse, MTN Joyous Celebration marks a significant milestone in 2021 with the recording of their 25th album, titled ‘Still we Rise’. Coupled with the release of the album, the first with their new record label Universal Music Group, the ensemble will present a night-only live performance of the album at the Joburg Theatre on Good Friday.

The show will be streamed live with a limited audience, in observance of the prevailing COVID-19 restrictions. Tickets for the show will be on sale from midday on Friday 26 March 2021.

Jabu Hlongwane, co-founder of the ensemble shed light into why this album is dubbed ‘Still We Rise’, and this is what he had to say. “We, as a people have demonstrated phenomenal resilience while faced with a global challenge – the pandemic that still threatens our livelihood and lives. We still rose and kept the faith instead of wallowing in self-pity and helplessness. We have had to adapt, forge ahead, and find a way to make it work. Still We Rise.”

The show starts at 18h00 on Friday 2 April and the Internationally acclaimed Gospel ensemble invites all South Africa and the world at large to join them in kickstarting the celebration of this milestone year through praise and worship. “We are excited that we are where we are today. Like any other brand, we have experienced difficult times over the years which are not often obvious or prevalent when people view our shows and productions or interact with our brand. Today, we can proudly say, that even though we have faced numerous adversities in our 25-year journey, often standing at crossroads wondering whether to continue or not, we kept on keeping on because of God’s grace and the love, backing and encouragement from you our fans and supporters – the extended Joyous Family,” says Lindelani Mkhize.
Those who followed the history of MTN Joyous Celebration since its inception will know that the brand has always been about unearthing talent, nurturing and

mentoring aspiring artists, and skilling them and assisting them to perfect their craft. It is against that backdrop that this 25th album is dedicated to the youth around the globe with a message of encouragement to pursue what God has gifted you with and make it happen despite your circumstances., “We have done it for the past 25 years, so can you. By His grace, still we rise,” concludes Hlongwane.
